Inspiration and motivation are such key parts of recovery when it comes to ending the cycle of addiction to drugs and alcohol. It is often asked, however, where this inspiration should come from, and for the purposes of this article the inspiration and motivation come from a source that many non-addicts receive inspiration from: Music! This particular story is about 24-year-old Brianna Osceles who is currently recording a song about addiction with the help of a famous, grammy-winning producer named Damon Elliott. The song itself isn’t just about her own addiction, which started in her early teens and had her using a wide variety of substances including: cocaine, crack, meth, painkillers, ecstasy and hallucinogens. In 2012, Osceles decided it was time to make a change and only three years later she says she is drug-free, but she admits that part of the reason for writing this song is to state most certainly that the road to recovery is not an easy one, a lesson she found out when her father died.

“When I reflect on that time, I think of the shock when I found out. And how I’m grateful that a power greater than myself carried me through it and kept me sober,” she said. “I still cry when I think about him sometimes. “My passion for dance also carried me through the grief. I knew if I went back to using I would die,” she said.
Osceles said she has been dancing for about six years, and it was dance that led her to Las Vegas and her current musical turn.
“Working with Damon is amazing. I feel blessed to have someone really believe in me,” she said. “The first time I heard the demo for my song I cried. It means so much to be recognized as an artist, and that someone with his success wants to help me succeed.”

Osceles admits that it has been a tremendous journey from addict to advocate and inspirational artist, and that she has faith both in herself and in others who are still battling their addictions. It’s positive forces like Brianna Osceles that can have such a positive impact on the lives of many, particularly those struggling. It just goes to show that inspiration can come from many places, and that there is always a chance for those struggling and in need of help, however down and discouraged they may feel. It should come as no surprise that inspiration and motivation can come from any number of sources, and realizing that fact could make a serious difference for those who believe their lives have been taken over by their particular poison.

Overcoming an illness is never easy, but there are a multitude of inspirational people, songs, movies, books and other sources that can truly help someone who’s lost their way. Finding that all important motivation could help an addict gain the confidence they need to make a change. A change for the better. A change that could last a lifetime.
